With the onset of the pandemic in 2020, residency programmes across the world have had to adapt their formats. With restricted or zero mobility, most initiatives have transformed to new innovative models of exchange online. It was in this context that ASEF through its arts website culture360 and Casa Asia developed the e-residency and mentorship programme ‘At Home/Being Home’. The theme revolved around the concept of ‘home’. More than just a place, home is a concept, an idea, a memory, an imagination. A non-physical and barrierless concept, which embodies a space that is identified as “home”: it is our neighbourhood, our city, our country or the globe itself. Yet, the pandemic has restricted us to move within this space, depriving us from or transforming the sense of home. Throughout this 6-week virtual residency, the selected artists worked in pairs, responding to this theme through the lenses of their artistic practices.
At the end of the residency, the four participating artists from Malaysia, Spain and Viet Nam come together to share their experience and their projects along with their mentor, Jayachandran Palazhy.
